Using Zillow, I searched for empty lots for sale in Albuquerque, calculated the price per square foot, and documented a square foot at each location. The rigid square is quite conspicuous in a living and changing landscape and with this limited context, monetary value reveals itself as a relative and arbitrary construct. The grid appears to satisfy some perceived manifestation of order, categorization, and organization that lends itself to control and a concentration of power. The world however, has its own ordered chaos.
